4.9 Overdose This product must be used by authorised personnel in a hospital setting. The risk of overdose is therefore theoretical. In the event of administration of a radiation overdose, the absorbed dose to the patient should be reduced where possible by increasing the elimination of the radionuclide from the body by frequent micturition and by forced diuresis and frequent bladder voiding. Additionally, the blockade of the thyroid gland should be recommended (e.g. with potassium perchlorate) in order to reduce the radiation exposure of the thyroid gland. To reduce the uptake of sodium iodide (131I), emetics can be given.
