4.5 Interaction with other medicinal products and other forms of interaction Kalbeten (all formulations) contains salicylates, therefore care should be exercised if receiving drugs to thin the blood (anticoagulant therapy) or oral therapy for diabetes or treatment for gout. Use of Kalbeten Suspension and Kalbeten Forte Suspension with tetracycline antibiotics can lead to reduced bioavailability of bismuth subsalicylate due to interaction with aluminium magnesium silicate in these formulation. Additionally the absorption of tetracycline antibiotics can be reduced when concurrently taken with products containing bismuth. This interaction can be minimised by separating the doses of the two drugs by a couple of hours.
