Mechanism of action
Coumadin is a synthetic anticoagulant of the coumarin series. It acts by inhibiting the formation of active clotting factors II, VII, IX and X.

Absorption
Coumadin is readily absorbed from the gastro-intestinal tract.
Distribution
Its plasma half-life is about 40 hours.
Biotransformation
It is metabolised in the liver.
Elimination
It is excreted in the urine mainly as metabolites.
